30+ Maternity Shoots to Inspire You

Deciding what to wear on a daily basis for any woman can be a struggle, but deciding what to wear for an extremely important photo shoot while you’re pregnant and full of crazy hormones can be incredibly stressful and confusing. We totally get it. As an e-tailer we know that finding a great dress for those upcoming photos is important but more importantly is that it fits our bump just right. From trial and error over the years we've seen the difference certain fabrics, cuts, colors, and styles can make for a woman as she gets ready for these special, intimate photos. I believe that Maternity photos can be some of the most beautiful and intimate photos that you’ll ever take and having the perfect outfit is key to making your photos look amazing. Below I wanted to share 55 Tips and Tricks I've learned over the years along with 30+ of my absolute favorite styled maternity shoots. Combined together I hope the tips & inspiration can get you started on a great path to what you want to wear, wear you want to take your photos, and what poses, accessories, and suprises youll include once its time to shoot!

1. Opt for A Maxi Dress

There are a couple of great reasons why a maxi dress is the perfect thing to wear for maternity shoots. For one, it’s incredibly comfortable. Comfort is key when you are pregnant, and when you’re taking maternity photos for an hour or so, you want to be as comfortable as can be. It also looks amazing on any pregnant body because it’s incredibly flattering. It covers up anything you don’t want shown, but can also be pulled agains the belly to show off your adorable baby bump. A maxi dress is also a very dramatic piece of clothing to wear for a photo shoot. The flowing fabric looks amazing in the wind and creates a lot of movement in a still photo. You certainly can’t go wrong wearing a maxi dress for your shoot.

2. Seek out Solid Colors vs Busy Prints

Since the main focus in your maternity shoot is your bump, don’t take the attention away form that with a loud pattern or print. Some soft, muted, more neutral floral prints can be fine but if the dress you fall in love with is offered in both prints and solids, Wear solid colors for your bump to stand out the most.

3. Embrace at least one Tight dress into your final shoot

If you are comfortable with wearing tight clothing that is. While I love the flowy, romantic look a loose maxi gives off, there is something about a more form fitting dres for maternity photos that seems to kick the chic-ness up a notch. Bodycon dresses   look absolutely stunning on pregnant women because they truly show off the amazing bump. Pregnancy is a beautiful thing and Showing that bump off is the perfect way to pay tribute to your pregnant self. Be proud of those beautiful curves.

4. Seek out Timeless styles- (Ask yourself "would I want to see a picture of myself in this outfit 10 years from now on my wall?")

You never want to think to yourself, “What on earth was I thinking?” In order to avoid that, go with a more timeless, simple look. A great option for this would be some jeans, a simple top and a pair of cute boots or a solid color modest dress.

5. Have 2 or 3 outfits & a few options for accessories.

A great idea is to have two or three outfits to wear for your maternity shoot, such as a casual outfit and a dressy outfit. This will not only give you options when choosing which photos you want to hang in your home, but it will also give you some variety in the photos as well. In addition I recommend if you are going to use bold accessories to liven up a solid color dress also bring some very simple and dainty accessories along with you as well. Sometimes the light, ambiance, and overall feel once you are out shooting could have you wanting to swap out an accessory or two.
